Una ciutat: pedra, ciment, asfalt. Desconeguts, monuments, institucions.
Què és el cor d’una ciutat? La seva ànima? Per què es diu que una ciutat és bonica o és lletja? Què té de bonic o de lleig una ciutat? Com es coneix una ciutat? Com coneix u o una la seva ciutat?
Mètode: caldria renunciar a parlar de la ciutat, a parlar sobre la ciutat, o bé obligar-se a parlar d’ella de la forma més ximple del món, parlar d’ella de forma evident, familiar. Abandonar tota idea preconcebuda. Deixar de pensar en termes molt elaborats, oblidar el què han dit urbanistes i sociòlegs.

Don’t try to find too fast a definition of the city; it’s a topic too vast, and it is kind of easy to make a mistake.
First, make the inventory of what we see. Enumerate just that one we're sure of. Establish elementary distinctions: for example, between what is a city and what isn’t.
Get focused on what separates the city from what is not city. Look what happens when the city stops. [...]

What is the heart of a city? What its soul? Why is a city said to be beautiful or ugly? What's a city beautiful or ugly? How is a city known? How do you get to know your city ?
Method: we should give up talking about the city, talking about the city, or maybe we should force ourselves to talk about it as simply as possible, to talk about it in an obvious, familiar way. To abandon any preconceived idea. To stop thinking in very elaborate terms, to forget what urbanists and sociologists have said.
